We stay at Apalachicola for a few days to let the Gulf settle down. This is a great place to hang. It’s kinda like the Keys used to be. A lot of characters with a lot of character. I even saw a sign at Boss’s Oyster Bar that called the place “The Oyster Republic”.
Applacicola is a very old and salty town. Started along time ago as a hub for the local timber business but as the trees disappeared, shrimp and oysters became it’s main industry.
Here you’ll see lots of birds… Eagles and Ospreys are common. So are aligators. When the tide is fresh the dolphin will appear and the local fishermen will be along the bank casting for Redfish.
The sunrises and sunsets bring a warm light that can make even the most mundane things appear extraordinary.
